Absolutely not. I’m glad I wasn’t passed along the burden of having to name my child after me to get into the numbers. If I were a Jr. then I’d feel like I had to have a 3rd. If you are already into the numbers then you really don’t have a choice.
I have enough problem deciphering between people when more than one person has the same name. With family you can’t just go with a last name as you do in the rest of life. You wind up with a nickname or a variation of your own name. That would lead to your family calling you something different than the rest of the world. From my experience you wind up with a grown up still going by a childlike sounding nickname.
As I have said many times before, I would love to name my children after me. Since I can have 4 wives, that could be a lot of Ahad’s running around. I am sure that wives won’t have a problem with that.
“I’m going to have to answer your question with my own question: how many of these women do you see naming their children after them?” (Zoolander anyone? no?) haha no “for serious” now and to get away from the Zoolander quotes, you don’t see too many women naming their daughter after them. I think its more common that a boy is named after his father; its a tradition in my family, anyway. There are so many good names out there, so I’ll probably pick a new one out for my kids.
Actually, my mom is named after my grandmother. The interesting thing is that my grandmother goes by her middle name. She was the youngest of nine and there was poor name planning so her name was very similar to one of her sister’s. At least that’s my understanding. My uncle will on occasion will use her first name and she will get very upset and say ‘You know I hate that name.’ My uncle will then ask the obvious question, ‘Then why did you name your daughter that?’ I was there for that particular exchange. You may be shocked hearing that story, I was not.
Oh no I mean I definitely see the mother-daughter name combo often, in my family even, I just meant particularly in this generation. I’ve been doing a lot of subbing and I swear, parents seem to be inventing names more than ever! This one district I sub for has some of the most interesting names…
Absolutely not! My name is too generic. I would be more creative with a name…something like “Seven” would sound good to me.:-P
