5. Super Mario Brothers - Please don’t let the movie tarnish the reputation of this game.
4. Grand Theft Auto 3
3. Legend of Zelda
2. NHL 94 - Solid game every year, but 94 was the last year with blood after fights.
1. Halo - Words cannot do this game justice. Nothing is more fulfilling than beating the game on Legendary. Many hours of my college life were spent on this game.
First I thought this list would be difficult because I couldn’t come up with enough. Instantly I had way more than I could deal with. Here’s what I’ve got:
5) War Lords (Atari) - A family favorite, the first 4-player game I ever had. To summarize it was 4-player breakout, only you had protect the blocks in your corner while trying to destroy everyone else’s.
4) Super Monkey Ball 2 (Gamecube) - The game that made me realize I could still get blisters on my thumbs in college.
3) Perfect Dark/Golden Eye (Nintendo 64) - Golden Eye paved the was for the 4-player first person shooter on the console, Perfect Dark perfected it. I will not argue with Golden Eye’s greatness, but Perfect Dark was a much better game.
2) Madden 95/NHL 95 (Super Nintendo) - The beginning of my sports game addiction. I logged more seasons on these games than I can count. Even though I could score a touchdown or goal just about whenever I wanted for some reason I couldn’t put them down.
1) Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64) - Not only was it groundbreaking for its 3D action, it was also just about a perfect game. I don’t think there are too many leaps that were this revolutionary.
Hard to leave off the list: Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball. Can you tell Super Nintendo was my first console that was still relevant when I got it? All I had was Atari when everyone else was playing Nintendo.
