Clint Eastwood on Celebrity Interview

Mike, TV No Comment

David Letterman’s announcer, Alan Kalter, is one of my favorite people on TV. I’ve never heard him talked about anywhere outside of the show. He is consistently funny every time he has a segment. His celebrity interviews are always hilarious and interesting. He goes on a rant about how Dave stole his interview and starts cursing and saying horrible things about Dave, then he turns to the celebrity and gives it to them. It usually looks like the celebrity agreed to do it but had no idea how crazy it’s going to be. Most of them just laugh. Some are confused (Paris Hilton comes to mind). Clint was one of the more enjoyable ones. He got it and enjoyed the bit. I especially liked the end because I imagine Alan must have been scared to have to deliver his final assault on Clint Eastwood. I would have been terrified.

New FOB Tour

foesplash2Fall Out Boy!

Cobra Starship!

All Time Low!

Metro Station! (ok, maybe half a !, I haven’t heard enough for the full !)

What a lineup! I can’t imagine I will find anyone who will want to go with me. Simply because I have very few 16-year old friends. Hey Monday is the only band I’ve never heard, but based on the other bands, I’m sure they are excellent as well.

Unsung Zeros

Mike, Music No Comment

This moring my iPhone shuffled itself onto an Unsung Zeros song, Postcards Home. I can’t remember the last time I listened to that song. Possibly one of my most forgotten favorite songs. I think Unsung Zeros flies under my music radar because they only had 2 albums that I can see (maybe an EP too) and I don’t have any of them. Just a few tracks. I tried to find Postcards Home on YouTube but there wasn’t much to be found there. You can check the song out on their last.fm or MySpace. They had a great song on a Warped Tour album, the 2002 edition, that I did find on YouTube. So I’ll stick that here.

Weekly Nostalgia on AbsolutePunk

Mike, Music No Comment

I’ve been reading AbsolutePunk for many years now. During college it was where I found out about new bands, new releases, and tours. There was no MySpace or Last.fm or any of the other millions of ways to find music online these days.

A few weeks ago they started doing Weekly Nostalgia, featuring a great band from years ago. Last week was Midtown, one of my college favorites. I can’t remember the last time I listened to one of their albums. I’ve listened to Cobra Starship much more recently, but that counts less than half. I don’t think I ever saw them in concert, somehow they just slipped by.

This week’s is The Movielife. I know that I definitely saw them in concert at least once. I believe they were opening for Brand New. The Movielife was never one of my favorites. I’m not sure I listened to any of their albums all the way through more than once. The songs in this look back are all excellent (and are still in my playlist today) and make me wonder if I should have spent a little more time digging through their other stuff.

I’m excited for the next rounds of these looks back. I imagine most of them will be old favorites that I used to listen to non-stop but might have gotten out of the habit of listening to.

Christmas Gifts: Get Smart

Mike, TV No Comment

My most asked for gift, I gave many, many reminders, was Get Smart on DVD. I did get it and was thrilled. I opened it up and found the case to be, umm, clever?

1. Just a regular old boxed set
1

2. Oh, past the first door are some steel gates
2

3. Cool, the phone booth
3

4. Finally, the season boxes
4

5. A slipcover, is that really necessary?
5

6. Finally, the discs!
6

The case really isn’t that bad. I just thought it was hilarious how many steps it took to get to the discs. It isn’t nearly as ridiculous as the lastest season of The Simpsons with the Krusty head.

One word of warning. My friend also received Get Smart for Christmas. He went through all of these steps and when he got to the season boxes, Season 2 was missing! He got it taken care of, but how do you miss an entire season?

Conan Goes to Santa School

Mike, TV No Comment

It looks like with Conan’s time on Late Night coming to an end, he’s showing some older clips. Conan learned how to be a Santa and then went to Saks Fifth Avenue to be Santa for a bit. He did his best to find loopholes in the Santa rules.

Guitar Hero: Stand or Sit?

Mike, Question of the Day, Video Games 1 Comment

Christmas meant a Guitar Hero comeback. My preferred method is standing. I can do it sitting, but I’m much better standing up.

Lose the Flashing Guitars FOB

Mike, Music No Comment

You know me, I’ve been a huge Fall Out Boy fan for many years now. Of course now their average fan is 10 years younger than me. Last night they were on Letterman and their guitars had, umm, lights on them. And they were flashing and blinking during the song. I just thought it looked really, really dumb. I’m not sure how I feel about the new album yet. I’ve only listened once and I Don’t Care has seemed kinda boring to me. They really peaked with Take This To Your Grave. Each subsequent album hasn’t been quite as good as the previous one.
