Now I’ve never had spam, so maybe I’m not supposed to get it. Here’s what I see:
1) My egg carton is making noise, muffled screams even.
2) Sir Can-O-Lot is a tiny egg sized knight.
3) He wants you to mix things up and try Spam with eggs.
I do like the idea of pushing Spam as a complementary ingredient. According to the article, that is their “Break the Monotony” campaign, mentioned in the ad, that started a few years ago.
Why a knight? He’s not a tiny cute and cuddly cartoon character you’d expect. Is spam trying to be harder than that? AdAge mentioned a crusade against the routine campaign, which makes sense, but I’m not a fan of.
It’s their 75th anniversary, they couldn’t have gone with tradition, even if the campaign is going against tradition?
Looking forward to the Sir Can-O-Lot pack-ins so kids can get their own cuddly knight.
Grantland on the Big 5
Saying this is probably my favorite read on Grantland since it started says more about how weak I’ve found the site. This is a solid overview of the Big 5 with plenty of Drexel teasing.
Pirates #34
The Pirates traded for AJ Burnett, but they already had a #34. A pretty good #34. Andrew McCutchen had that number. What did he ask in exchange for the number? A college fund for his daughter, who isn’t due for a few months. Maybe not as exciting as Kruk and Mitch, but very cool. (Kruk told the story on Letterman, I couldn’t find the video.)
NBA Ratings
Kind of surprising NBA ratings are up after the lockout. My only guess is that people like the games more often. The Sixers are playing well and are 4th in the league for both percent and actual increase in viewers.
Big League Chew
I found a blog all about candy because of this post and it is one in-depth piece of work. Working at a baseball field as a teenager and having snack bar privileges meant a lot of Big League Chew for me. I can’t think of a better design. You could decide exactly how much gum you were in the mood for. During those boring days at work, that amount was an entire bag. After those days, we’d take a little break from the BLC, a whole bag at once is a lot of sugar. Takes a while for that to work itself out.
Finally, good bye Dr. Saturday. Ok, not entirely. Dr. Saturday is a Yahoo blog, Matt Hinton left and he’s all I’ve known of Dr. Saturday. I’m sure the new blogger will be alright, but I’ll be on the lookout for where Matt winds up next.
I’m not sure about the three reasons for a video to go viral. I’d lean on the Tastemakers getting people to see it. Then the community builds up around it if it is unique.
I saw this article a while back about a survey of British drivers, stating that almost half of them name their car. I thought it was a little strange. I haven’t heard of many people naming their car. I never have. If I talk about my car I will sometimes refer to it as Tiggy, but that is more of just giving the Tiguan a nickname.
I don’t even know what I would name my car.
Does your car have a name? Why not give it a name, if you can think of something to name it.
Is this a common thing? I haven’t seen it before and I want it.
I was looking around online at cars. My car is almost at its 3rd birthday. I’m not planning on getting rid of it, I can’t until I graduate. My last car was a 3-year lease, so I am just used to looking at this point in ownership.
I wound up on Ford’s C-Max site and am plenty intrigued. These should come out in plenty of time for when I will want to buy something. I want something efficient and VW has been terribly slow in improving things, besides diesel. But my future car thoughts aren’t why I brought you by.
Look at this thing! You just wave your foot under the bumper and as long as you have your smart key in your pocket, it will open for you.
Questions 1. Does it only open? What about closing? I have the issue of not having a free hand to close the trunk a whole lot more than needing to open it. I really had to think of a case when I would need this to open.
2. What could potentially set it off? If you get out of your car (meaning you are close enough for the key) and a squirrel runs under the car, might that open the trunk?
3. Why are we stopping at the trunk? How about opening the driver’s door for me?
I searched around and found this was first announced a few months ago. I also saw a bunch of comments saying this was a dumb idea. I don’t get the complaining. It’s an additional feature. It doesn’t change any usual usage and if you weren’t told about it, you probably would never even know it was there.
Of course you know, so this is just reminding you. Max Bemis is in Say Anything, who has their own album coming out in the spring. Two Tongues is him and Chris Conley, his usual spot is in Saves the Day. Both bands are awesome and together, the first Two Tongues album (AmazonSpotify) was pretty great.
Saying it is somber on campus, well, that’s a given. We were already spent. We had enough last year and we didn’t want anything else to happen. Now this? We weren’t remotely prepared for this to happen. Most of us aren’t capable of having any feeling anymore, so we don’t know what to do. So we’re just moving forward and we’re going to do everything we can think of to remember and not let anyone forget that Joe was here.
It’s easy to forget he’s even gone. To me, Joe is in everything that is the school. So the fact that the buildings are still standing, means he is still here. The fact that I never met him and never will, sort of means that’s true.
Last spring, I had my chance to meet him. I stopped by campus after school had ended. I came out of the business building and he was sitting on a bench, reading the paper. There was no one around, it was a moment when you realize that absence, and you realize how silent it is. I didn’t say anything, I kept walking. I didn’t want to disturb him. I wish I would have had the chance to meet him, but I’m ok with not saying anything that day.
The symbols are everywhere. The hardest part of the day is the walk back to my car. I park next to the stadium and his picture has been on the north scoreboard for the past few days. You see it once to pass the IM building and I look at it all the way to my car. Across the street, the BJC sign just says, ‘Thanks JoePa’.
On Sunday morning, I had to go to campus, I saw the line of cars at the statue and could see the crowd around it, there is still a line of cars there tonight. Yesterday afternoon, the traffic was backed up to the BJC, it’s never like that. It wasn’t really because everyone was stopping by the statue, but with all the media tents and people slowing down to look, it backed things up. I had another meeting to go to but it had been a hard day and I decided the meeting wasn’t all that important. I dropped my stuff in my car and walked around the stadium. I stopped at the statue. There were maybe fifteen people there. Nobody said anything. People were just looking at the statue, looking at everything that had been left, or taking pictures, some people were just looking at the stadium. I kept walking around. The ground was still covered with snow and in the grass north of the stadium, which is on somewhat of a hill, people had written in the snow, I spotted ‘We Are’ and ‘JoePa’. It’s gone today now that everything has melted.
The only wonder I have is if these are the sorts of things we should have been doing after he was fired. I know everything was happening so fast, and we still had games to play. Plus, everyone employed by the university was probably scared to show any support. Now, I’m sure most of what has been done just was, nobody worried.
I probably won’t make it to the viewing, I’ve seen pictures of the lines. I will try and leave class early and cancel my office hours tomorrow for the send-off through campus. I was able to get a seat at the memorial, so I will be there in the BJC on Thursday. I don’t know what that is going to be like, I don’t imagine it will be easy.
After that, I think it will be just as hard for a while. I’m not sure the mood will change until Blue-White, and I’m very curious what that will be like, it will probably be the first one I attend since my sophomore year.
How do we continue to remember him? Besides the library. Does it become Paterno Stadium? I think Old Main should become Paterno Hall, that’s how important he was to the school. My favorite idea I’ve seen is renaming State College to Joe. So that we can all live in Joe, PA.
It’s like the same thing repeated. Obviously, teams are at different points in their signing process, so these shouldn’t be compared. But just the fact that they posted so close to each other, and the A’s would never have the chance to sign Price, makes it somewhat interesting.
That was the subject line of an email I received today from National Geographic. What has become of you NatGeo?
Click on the image to get to the photo gallery, it’s pretty cool. There is more of the showgirl chickens plus all sorts of other animals. At the very least, you now now this is a thing.
